The Emergency

In late October 2024, extreme rainfall triggered catastrophic flash floods in the Valencia region. Within hours, streets turned into raging rivers, towns were flooded and cut off from the outside world.

Countless pets and livestock drowned, were buried in mud or separated from their families. In the worst-affected zones, the supply situation remained critical for days.

Our Deployment

The ADRG deployed to Spain and worked closely with the local animal-welfare organisations and authorities.

The deployment was carried out under official mandate and with the involvement of the Guardia Civil, and in close cooperation with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Universidad CEU Cardenal Herrera (CEU UCH).

• Rescue and recovery of animals in distress from flooded and mud-covered areas.
• Emergency veterinary care for injured and hypothermic animals.
• Distribution of food, water and relief supplies in the affected towns.
• Supporting local animal-welfare organisations with personnel and equipment.

The deployment once again underlined the ADRG’s rapid readiness to respond to disasters elsewhere in Europe.
